Energus is the new home for Cumbria’s Nuclear Academy and the flagship 2-storey building is the first project to be completed as part of Britain’s Energy Coast Masterplan to be completed. With a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’, the building features a wealth of sustainable features including the use of Kalzip Aluminium and renewable solar power technology.

Lakesmere was appointed to install three different Kalzip profiles to the roof area, including the addition of photovoltaic strips. This project was the first time Lakesmere had worked with solar technology and the team’s debut installation of Kalzip AluPlusSolar.

Lakesmere’s technical skill is evident not only in the careful integration of the different Kalzip profiles to create an attractive finish but also in the successful installation of the solar roofing system. This included ensuring the electrical output if the PV strips was effectively collected through cables within the roof construction and connected to the main electrical switchgear of the building. Lakesmere was also tasked with meeting the stringent environmental targets of the project, such as an air leakage rate of 5m3/hr/m2.
