Environment

Construction impacts significantly on the environment and of course, our lives. Lakesmere recognises that as a leading organisation within the industry it has a major part to play in the efficient use of resources during manufacture and construction, the long-term sustainability of our design solutions and our investment in innovations, which reduce the impact on our natural resources, and not least the environment in which we live.

The company operates within approved ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Management Systems . Lakesmere is an advocate for sustainable business practices and actively seeks out environmentally beneficial solutions for its clients. Recent projects that clearly demonstrate Lakesmere’s commitment to embracing innovation and sustainable construction methods include a nature roof installation at West Ham Bus Depot in London and a photovoltaic roofing system at Energus (nuclear academy) in Cumbria.

Positive steps to reduce Lakesmere’s carbon footprint in all business areas include:

  • Off site, modular, systems resulting in significant waste reductions and material re-use/re-cycling due to manufacture in a factory environment.
  • Introduction of a robust Waste Recycling System for the segregation and recycling of all card, glass, tins and cans, plastic cups and bottles, and printer cartridges across all its offices. This is collected and managed through a third party company, SO Recycle who commit to recycling 100% of all the recyclables they collect.
  • Where possible, Lakesmere strives to reduce its paper consumption and key to this has been the implementation of a company-wide electronic Information Management System (IMS) that acts as the central hub of all company, client and project intelligence.
  • Video Conferencing facilities are installed company-wide, helping to significantly reduce the amount of travel between our five UK regional offices. Skype software is also used to communicate via the internet with home-workers and Lakesmere’s Middle East operation and other oversees personnel to reduce the need for frequent travel.
